北海道赤魷廣泛棲息於太平洋。 呈暗紫色長筒狀，肉厚，背部中央有一條垂直的暗帶； 它的鰭呈棱柱形，腹肌內有不規則的發光組織。 它有十隻觸手，其中兩隻觸手較長，全身密佈著深色細點。
The neon flying squid is widely inhabited in the Pacific Ocean. It has a dark purple long tube shape, thick flesh, and a vertical dark band in the center of the back; its fins are prismatic, and there are irregular luminous tissues in the abdominal muscles. It has ten tentacles, two of tentacles are longer and the whole body is densely covered with dark fine spots.
